Before leaving the house
- Measure all three mattresses — length, width, and depth; photograph the numbers. The beds came with the flat, so no size is safely assumable, and every linen purchase depends on this.
- Two calls: Call Al-Fatah · 051-2701065 (Arshia stainless pressure cooker PKR 23,900 — in stock? hold one) and Call Habitt PWD · 0321-9200053 (does the branch exist, and are Proline pots / the Alessa cooker on the shelf?).
The Sunday cart — the authoritative list
The route — two clusters, one optional detour
F-7 Markaz cluster — textiles worth touching
5 minutes from E-7. Shops open around 11am.
- Ideas (Gul Ahmed), Plot 13-A, Main Double Road, F-7 Markaz — the anchor. Ask for the top lines: long-staple/combed percale and their heaviest combed towels, not the entry ranges (entry percale ~PKR 3,920; premium fitted and combed lines PKR 5,500–7,100 and up — that premium is materials, not label).
- Sapphire Home + Khaadi Home (Safa Gold Mall, 1st floor) and ChenOne (Jinnah Super) — 20 minutes of hand-feel comparison before committing at Ideas. Ask ChenOne about their 650-GSM Pima towel line, sold out online.
- Optional detour: Shams, Shop 6, Plot B-8, School Road, Super Market F-6 (2 minutes from Kohsar) — the verified Victorinox stop; number is on shopatshams.com.pk if you want to call first.
Buy the minimum, wash-test this week, reorder the winner online — every mill ships nationwide.
Centaurus Mall, F-8 — the kitchen kit
5–10 minutes on. Al-Fatah 10am–9pm daily.
- Al-Fatah — most of the Sunday cart in one store: knives (genuine Victorinox per resident reports — priced up, but that premium is function, not lifestyle), interim saucepan and tawa, the held Arshia cooker, bins (pedal-test the kitchen one; soft-close stainless runs PKR 3,000–6,500, premium to PKR 13,000–16,000), utensils, and the whole Pakistan basket including the mosquito kit.
- The Linen Company, Shop 345, 3rd floor — Nishat Chunian-linked (the mill relationship is in their 2025 annual report), T200–T400 with clearer specs than most. Judge fabric in hand; ignore their seller-curated website reviews; returns are exchange-only.
- Nishat Linen, Shop 120, 1st floor — strongest full-bedding range in the mall if F-7 didn't finish the list; praised fabric, one resident found the sheets fragile for the price.
Aabpara (Al-Muslim Crockery #679, United Plastic #621) stays the value option for utensils and bins, but at this quality brief it's a skip unless you enjoy the bazaar itself.
What good looks like, in hand
Towel checks in store
- 500–600 GSM combed cotton is the sweet spot; heavier dries too slowly in monsoon months.
- Hold it to the light — if the base weave shows through, the weight is padded by sparse long loops.
- Double-stitched or overlocked hem on all four sides.
- Judge dry hand-feel, not shelf softness — finishing sizes wash out in 1–2 washes.
Decent starts ~PKR 1,200; the heaviest long-staple lines at PKR 2,000–4,000 are the right spend. "Export quality" labels are used loosely — check hem and dye evenness yourself. Full solo set over time: 2–3 bath, 2 hand, 1–2 bath mats (700+ GSM); guest pairs when arrivals are booked.
Sheet checks in store
- 100 percent cotton percale, 200–300 TC single-ply for Islamabad summers; sateen only for the short winter.
- 800+ TC claims are multi-ply yarn counted per strand — a worse fabric with a bigger number. Local mills' modest T-200 labels are honest.
- Fitted sheets need the mattress depth from this morning's measurements — plush mattresses need 11–15 inch pockets or corners pop.
- Percale should feel crisp, not slick; a plasticky sheen means poor cotton or a hidden blend.
Solid set PKR 4,000–7,000; top long-staple single-ply lines ~PKR 8,000–15,000 — worth it for the bed you sleep in nightly. Guest rooms get mid-tier sets when a visit is actually scheduled. Buy spare pillowcases with every set.
Knife and utensil checks
- 2–3 knives (chef, paring, later serrated), never a block set — full tang, no gaps at the handle, balanced at the grip. Local trio PKR 2,500–5,000; the Victorinox pair costs several times that and is the one branded buy that earns it.
- 18/10 stainless where it holds food; 18/0 is fine for spatulas and ladles.
- Boards: plastic for raw meat, wood for the rest. No glass or marble.
Bin checks
- Press the pedal repeatedly — smooth resistance, crisp return; the pedal is what fails on cheap bins.
- Removable inner bucket with a lip, or you'll be scrubbing the shell.
- Soft-close is worth paying for on the kitchen bin only; bathroom bins can be simple (PKR 500–1,200).

Monday's online orders
All cash on delivery to House 158, Street 15, E-7 — placed Monday 31 August, after the eSIM is live, because COD dies without a reachable number. Guest checkout works everywhere below; only Daraz (the last resort) needs an account. Prices read from live product pages on Friday 29 August; selector-hidden variants are marked.
- Orderhabitt.com — Proline Gastro 18/10 casserole 20×12cm PKR 17,900 (each selection is one pot, not a set; the 28×16cm price shows only at checkout) + Alessa 5L 18/10 pressure cooker PKR 41,900 if the Arshia fell through or you want the upgrade. Shipping PKR 699, 10–12 days — or the PWD branch today if the call checks out.
- Orderjbsaeedhome.com — cast-iron tawa 28cm PKR 3,990, 19 in stock, 3–5 days.
- Ordergulahmedshop.com — Creampuff 550-GSM combed 6-piece towel set PKR 5,520 (the buyable towel winner); Paisley Glory TC200 percale king set PKR 4,361 (low stock); Ice White TC400 sateen duvet-cover set PKR 17,850 (6 left). These king sets are flat-sheet only — add fitted sheets (T-200 line, ~PKR 5,460) sized to the measurements.
- OrderCrescent Home Store (crescenthomestore.com) — one bath towel as a mill-direct sample (run by Crescent Textile Mills, Faisalabad); weigh it, wash it 3 times, and let it compete for the bulk order.
- WaitKitchen King (kitchenking.com) — the only verified fully-clad Pakistani stainless, and the entire Pro line is sold out: wok PKR 11,730–13,294, saucepans PKR 6,992–8,372, frypan too. Ask the helpline for restock timing; order the wok + two saucepans the day it returns (~PKR 26,000–30,000).
- WaitChenOne 650-GSM Pima towels — the stated-spec winner nationally, sold out online; check the Jinnah Super shop Sunday, otherwise watch restock.
- After wash-testBulk textiles — whichever mill wins the first week gets the house order: remaining towels, second and third sheet sets. Araish (araish.com, T200/T300 percale, COD, custom sizing) is the answer for any odd-sized mattress.
- AlternativeBins online if Sunday's pedal test disappoints — JSONS Danny Home 30L soft-close PKR 15,990; Naheed Homeatic 5L PKR 5,600 each. Note this online trio totals PKR 27,190, well above in-store bin prices.
- AlternativeJB Saeed / Zubaidas — exact-SKU branded goods (Victorinox, Prestige, Brabantia). No official Tefal/Fissler/Zwilling distributor exists in Pakistan, so imported cookware is parallel import without manufacturer warranty. Al-Fatah online delivers same-day city-wide (min PKR 1,000) for anything forgotten.
- LaterHotel-supply expedition — Yousaf Jamal (Adamjee Road, Saddar) and INNEQUIP (China Market, College Road), both verified Rawalpindi operations: heavy-gauge stainless at commercial prices, inspect gauge and welds in person. A free-afternoon trip, not this week's.
The Monday "Order" rows above sum to PKR 91,521 plus shipping (Habitt 59,800 + tawa 3,990 + Gul Ahmed 27,731); fitted sheets and the Crescent sample add on measurement and taste. Sapphire and Nishat webstores currently expose no home stock — their bedding is an in-store buy.
Budget
| Category | Estimate |
|---|---|
| Towels, solo set (heavy long-staple lines) | PKR 10,000–18,000 |
| Bed linens, own bed (2–3 top-line sets + cover) | PKR 20,000–35,000 |
| Cookware (clad + 18/10 + stainless cooker) | PKR 60,000–90,000 |
| Utensils and knives (incl. Victorinox pair) | PKR 15,000–25,000 |
| Bins ×3 (in-store; the online trio runs to ~27,000) | PKR 10,000–27,000 |
| Total | PKR 115,000–195,000 |
The good-not-luxury floor was PKR 60,000–105,000; the difference buys heavier cotton, full cladding, 18/10 steel, and Swiss blades — construction, not logos.
Background — read at home
Stainless strategy
No retailer checked (Al-Fatah, Habitt, Carrefour, Metro, imported-brand distributors) could be verified stocking fully-clad tri-ply in Islamabad. The split that follows:
- Boiling and simmering (stockpot, saucepans, daal, rice): disc-bottom stainless is genuinely fine — sidewall heat doesn't matter. Al-Fatah walk-in, Habitt Proline 18/10, or Sonex online.
- Frying and sauté: the one place cladding matters. Kitchen King's clad pieces when restocked; until then the cast-iron tawa and the heaviest interim pan carry it.
- Pressure cooker: Arshia at Al-Fatah (PKR 23,900, disc base, fine) or Alessa 18/10 at Habitt (PKR 41,900) — that premium buys steel grade and build, not badge. Anodized aluminum at PKR 7,000–9,000 stays the safe fallback.
- The seller test: does the aluminum core continue up the sides, or is it only a disc under the base? "Tri-ply base" is not fully clad. No answer means disc.
- Local stoves: Pakistani burners run hotter and less regulated than European hobs, punishing thin disc bases (warping, off-center scorch) — buy the heaviest gauge on the shelf, let karahi and tawa do the high-heat work, and add a cheap flame-diffuser ring for delicate simmering.
Pakistan must-haves beyond the list
This week
- Drinking water — the lease (Clause 13 / Annexure A) obliges the landlord to a working main-supply filter: verify it exists and works. It is still not a drinking-water guarantee; the standard fix is a 19L-bottle dispenser with weekly delivery (refills ~PKR 150–350) — find the E-7 supplier via the street's WhatsApp group.
- Power — the lease includes a basic UPS with ACs excluded (Clauses 13–14): verify it carries lights, fans, and the router. Night load-shedding of 1.5–3 hours is current per the Power Division (29 August). The decided upgrade is a lithium hybrid inverter + LiFePO4 (~US$1,250–2,000) — a separate project.
- Blender (PKR 4,000–10,000) — chutneys, lassi, daily ginger-garlic paste; closer to essential than in Europe.
- Roti hot case (PKR 800–2,000) — rotis are made in batches and go stiff in an open basket.
Verify at the house
- Water storage tank and pump motor present and working — without storage the taps go dry in a supply interruption.
- Piped Sui gas or cylinder? It changes stove compatibility and the leak-check routine (the gas meter is shared per the lease).
Buy in October, before winter
- Carbon monoxide detector — gas geysers and heaters in poorly ventilated rooms are a genuine recurring winter hazard; the one non-optional safety buy.
- Air purifier for November–January smog, plus hot water bottles as a hedge against winter Sui-gas pressure drops.
Costs in this block lean on 2022-priced sources; treat the rupee figures as floors.
Known unknowns
- Prices are online-catalog anchors checked Friday 29 August; shelf stock at a specific branch is unverified except where noted.
- Metro Pakistan's continued existence is in doubt (dead corporate domain); never drive to I-11 without the call.
- Carrefour's Giga Mall location is solid; its stock is a black box — carrefour.pk was unreachable throughout research.
- Habitt's own site disagrees with itself about the PWD branch (one locator lists it, one doesn't) — hence the morning call.
- Bareeze Home could not be verified at all; ignore aggregator addresses for it.
- Kohsar/F-10 specialty shops and Aabpara hours are community-sourced, not confirmed for Sunday.
- Single anecdotes, not patterns: one buyer distrusts The Linen Company's on-site reviews (justified — seller-curated, though the mill link is real); one found ChenOne underwhelming.
- There is no Pakistani Wirecutter — no independent comparative-testing outlet covers household goods. The substitute: buy one unit, weigh it, wash it 3 times, then order the house quantity. On Daraz, read only recent 1–3 star reviews with buyer photos and look for the same defect across unrelated buyers; ignore the star average.
